Bangladesh Emerging Women’s Cricket Team kicked off their three-match T20 series with a resounding win against South Africa Emerging Women on Wednesday. The hosts claimed a 5-wicket victory in the Cox’s Bazar International Cricket Stadium opening match. All-rounder Swarna Akter, who anchored the chase with a superb half-century, was named Player of the Match.
The game began at 1:30 PM on the Cox’s Bazar stadium academy ground, with South Africa batting first. They set a modest target of 117 runs after completing their 20 overs. Bangladesh was under pressure in what turned into a nail-biting contest before Swarna Akter’s magical fifty turned the tide. Her composure at the crease helped the home side seal the win with five wickets in hand.
Swarna said to reporters after the match, “We entered the field with a winning mindset. I am grateful to the Almighty for giving me the strength to contribute with the bat and help the team overcome the obstacle.
The remaining two T20 matches of the series will also be played at the same venue in the seaside town of Cox’s Bazar. The second and third fixtures are scheduled for May 16 and May 18, respectively.
