A massive stingray-like fish, locally known as ‘Shapla Pata’ fish, was caught in the nets of local fishermen off the coast of Teknaf’s Marine Drive. The fish, weighing approximately 10 kilograms, sparked excitement among the fishing community.

On Friday morning, a group of fishermen from Ukhiya set out to sea when they unexpectedly found the giant fish entangled in their nets. They later brought it ashore, drawing significant attention from locals. This rare species is usually found in deep waters, making such a large catch in the coastal area an uncommon occurrence.

“I have never seen such a big Shapla Pata fish before,” said one of the fishermen. “It’s highly sought after for its delicious taste and fetches a good price in the market.”

Shapla Pata fish are known to sell at high prices, which delights the fishermen. A lucrative auction bid is expected for the fish.

Locals believe that the recent increase in the catch of large fish along the Teknaf coast is a promising sign for the fishing industry, bringing hope to the fishermen in the region.
