Cox’s Bazar recently witnessed a powerful conclusion to the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, with over 500 participants joining hands to advocate for a world free of violence against women and girls.
The campaign brought together residents, government officials, and humanitarian partners, creating a unified voice against gender-based violence.
The initiative started with a vibrant launch at Laboni Beach, setting an energetic tone for the two-week program.
Activities included interactive theater performances and creative stalls that transformed public spaces into colorful advocacy hubs for gender equality and empowerment.
Among the highlights was the TomTom Art and Craft Fair, which showcased handmade crafts from both the host and Rohingya communities. These crafts embody resilience, collaboration, and the power of unity.
The Gender-based Violence Sub-Sector and the Gender in Humanitarian Action Working Group (GiHA WG) spearheaded the campaign, receiving support from the Government of Bangladesh, UN agencies, NGOs, women’s rights organizations, and local activists.
Together, they reinforced the global message of solidarity and action against gender-based violence.
Spanning from November 25—International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women—to December 10—Human Rights Day—the campaign’s activities inspired collective action and fostered hope for a violence-free future.
