A massive 200kg “Pakhi Maach” (flying fish) was caught in the nets near Shah Porir Dwip, Teknaf. On Friday afternoon, hundreds of people gathered at the Shah Porir Dwip jetty fishery to witness the remarkable catch, which weighed five maunds.
The trawler’s owner, Mohammad Rafique, informed reporters that fishermen had brought the fish for sale. Ziab-ul-Haq, the trawler’s captain, recounted that he and 15 fishermen set out into the deep sea on the FB Rafique two days earlier. They were fishing near Maulvi Shil, which is close to St. Martin’s Island when they caught this enormous Pakhi Maach in their nets alongside other fish.
“These fish are incredibly quick swimmers, capable of reaching speeds of up to 110 km/h,” said Haq. He added that while the fish is known for its delicious taste, it isn’t in high demand in Teknaf. The fish, despite its impressive size, sold for only Tk15,000.
