260 red coral and bhol fish were caught on fishing lines in the Maulvir Shil area of the Saint Martin Channel in the Bay of Bengal.
The fish were caught by a boat owned by Omar Faruk and Mohammad Hossain, residents of Jalia Para in Shah Porir Dwip, under Teknaf’s Sabrang Union. The fish weighed between one and two kilograms each, with the largest exceeding six kilograms.
On Sunday afternoon, the fishermen brought the catch to the Shah Porir Dwip Jalia Para boat terminal, where a crowd of curious locals gathered to witness the haul.
Boat owner Omar Faruk said the trawler set sail from Shah Porir Dwip Jalia Para ghat at 4:00 PM on Saturday.
Led by seasoned fisherman Manna Majhi, four fishermen anchored the boat in the Saint Martin Channel’s Maulvir Shil area by evening. They cast 1,400 fishing lines, and within an hour, fish started biting. After an hour and a half, the crew reeled 160 red coral and bhol fish. A nearby boat also caught over a hundred red coral fish.
The catch was later sold at the landing station for Tk 370,000, or Tk 25,000 per maund.
