The Coast Guard seized 600 sacks containing 30 tonnes of urea fertiliser and detained two alleged smugglers during an operation in Sitakunda, Chattogram, on Thursday.
The fertiliser, valued at around Tk21 lakh, was allegedly being prepared for illegal shipment to Myanmar, Coast Guard officials said.
The operation was conducted near Bashbaria Ghat under Sitakunda police station at around 12:30 am on Thursday by a team from Coast Guard Station Bhatiary acting on a tip-off.
The team intercepted two trucks while the fertiliser was allegedly being transferred from the trucks to a cargo boat for shipment to Myanmar.
The Coast Guard also seized two trucks allegedly used in the smuggling operation.
Coast Guard media officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Suzan said legal proceedings against the detained men and the seized fertiliser and vehicles were being processed.
He said the Coast Guard would continue such operations to prevent smuggling.
