A total of 314 sea turtle hatchlings were released into the sea along the Teknaf coastal area of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday (April 11) and Sunday (April 12) mornings.
Mo. Liakat Ali, Research Facilitator of CODEC, responsible for Teknaf-Ukhia, confirmed the matter.
He said that the hatchlings were released from the Madarbunia and Cheftakhali hatcheries under the Community-Led Turtle Conservation Project implemented by CODEC.
He further said that, under the initiative, sea turtle eggs are collected and hatched before being released into the sea. So far, 15,308 turtle eggs have been collected, and 4,469 hatchlings have been successfully released into the sea.
Baharchhara High School Headmaster M A Manjur said that the initiative is playing an important role in protecting coastal biodiversity and conserving endangered sea turtles.
