Former lawmaker of the reserved women’s seat, Saleha Khanam, has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un). She was the mother of Lutfur Rahman Kajol, BNP’s Central Executive Committee Secretary for Fisheries Affairs and former MP of Cox’s Bazar Sadar-Ramu constituency.

Saleha Khanam breathed her last at 10:20 PM on Thursday, April 18, at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Her son, Lutfur Rahman Kajol, confirmed the news through a heartfelt status on his Facebook profile.

Following her demise, BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman expressed deep condolences. On Friday afternoon, the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, issued an official press release conveying Tarique Rahman’s sympathy message.

In his statement, Tarique Rahman said Saleha Khanam had devoted herself to her family, politics, and social service. He added that she was widely respected for her unwavering commitment as a staunch follower of martyred President Ziaur Rahman.

Tarique Rahman also extended his sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
