Electric three-wheelers, known as e-Tomtoms, have recently started operating along Cox’s Bazar’s scenic Marine Drive and other roads, marking a new step in sustainable urban transport for Bangladesh.
These e-Tomtoms are powered by lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries—an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuel engines. With significantly lower carbon emissions and safer technology, they offer a promising model for green public transportation.
According to one of the drivers, five e-Tomtoms operate daily along the Marine Drive from morning till evening. “The ride is smooth and comfortable,” he said, noting that many tourists are drawn to the vehicle’s sleek design and eco-friendly appeal. As the service has been running for just over a week, the cars continue to catch the attention of first-time riders.
The initiative is being welcomed as an innovative and sustainable addition to Cox’s Bazar’s transport system, aligning with broader goals of climate-conscious development.
