To implement the government’s 58-day ban on all types of fishing in Bangladesh’s marine waters, a coordinated patrol was conducted on April 29 in key coastal areas of Cox’s Bazar, including the Nazirartek estuary, Sonadia Island, and the Maheshkhali Channel.

The Cox’s Bazar District Administration, Department of Fisheries, and the Coast Guard jointly carried out the patrol: Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin and District Fisheries Officer Md. During the operation, Badruzzaman, assistant commissioners, executive magistrates, senior upazila fisheries officers, and Coast Guard officials were present.

During the operation, two fishing boats were seized and escorted back to shore for violating the fishing ban.

Following the patrol, the team visited a “Green Mussel Farming” subproject site in the Maheshkhali Channel near Khurushkul. Associate Professor Md. Asaduzzaman of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is leading the project funded under the Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries initiative.
