US Army and Air Force members conducted a four-day training program for firefighters on Cox’s Bazar sea beach, focusing on coastal disaster rescue techniques. The training began on May 18 and concluded on Wednesday, May 21, at the parasailing point of the country’s most popular beach.
According to Md. Tanharul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of the Cox’s Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defence, the training aimed to enhance firefighters’ capacity to rescue victims during floods, tidal surges, and cyclones.
A total of 15 officials and firefighters from Cox’s Bazar Fire Service participated in the training program.
Speaking over the phone, Tanharul Islam said, “With the support of the US Embassy, members of the US Army and Air Force trained our personnel in various rescue techniques. On the final day, certificates were handed over to the trainees by the instructors.”
The training covered a range of scenarios, including rescuing individuals trapped in floodwaters, retrieving victims swept away by tidal waves, and responding to other water-related emergencies.
Tanharul added that the program was held under instructions from higher authorities.
Meanwhile, photos from the training went viral on social media, drawing some negative reactions from netizens. In response, Tanharul clarified, “There’s nothing controversial. It was purely a training session. The trainers are leaving today right after the completion.”
