Heavy rainfall continues to lash Cox’s Bazar, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy to very heavy showers through July 9. Authorities have warned of potential landslides in Cox’s Bazar and the surrounding hilly areas due to the persistent rain.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has maintained Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 at all four maritime ports in the country as inclement weather persists. Continuous rainfall has led to flooding across most areas of Cox’s Bazar’s nine upazilas, including the popular tourist zones and Teknaf. Waterlogging on roads and side streets has severely disrupted vehicular movement in many areas.

Abdul Hannan, Assistant Meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, reported that 80 millimetres of rainfall were recorded in Cox’s Bazar between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. today.

In Ukhiya, four days of non-stop rain and upstream flow from the hills have caused significant damage. Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Kamrul Hossain Chowdhury said measures are underway to drain water swiftly and reduce waterlogging. Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mohammad Kawsar Hossain added that local representatives have been instructed to prepare damage assessment reports and submit them to the Upazila administration for further action.
