Heavy rains and hills downstream caused significant erosion at the entrance to the Kalatali and Sugandha points of Cox’s Bazar beach, creating safety risks for the tourists and fading the scenic beauty.

The roads have become ramshackle with large holes and the erosion has also split the baliari (dunes) into two sections, stretching to the sea.

This situation has diminished the beach’s natural beauty and created a hazardous environment for visitors, who must now navigate unstable terrain to reach the water.

Md. Tanvir Hossain, executive magistrate of Cox’s Bazar District Administration (Tourism Cell), told Cox’s Bazar Life that an inspection was conducted following reports of damage at the Kalatali and Sugandha points.

“We have sent a letter to the concerned authorities. We will take initiatives to fill the eroded areas and restore the beach to its natural state as soon as possible,” he added.
