Ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced the names of 125 candidates in the first phase.

The party held a press conference at its temporary office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, at 11:00am on Wednesday (December 10) to announce it. NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain officially unveiled the list of candidates.

Given Cox’s Bazar’s strategic importance due to tourism, the Rohingya crisis, and other national concerns, the party nominated candidates in three out of the district’s four parliamentary constituencies, all contesting under the party’s “Shapla Kali” symbol.

For Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria–Pekua), the party nominated Dr Maimul Ahsan Khan, former Chairman of the Department of Law at the University of Dhaka. He is currently serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC).

In Cox’s Bazar-2 (Moheshkhali–Kutubdia), which comprises two island upazilas, ASM Suza Uddin, Joint Member Secretary of the party’s central committee and Organising Secretary in charge of Chattogram Division, has been nominated.

Meanwhile, in Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhiya–Teknaf)—two border upazilas widely discussed due to the Rohingya issue—the party has fielded Mohammad Hossain, Office Secretary of the NCP Cox’s Bazar district unit.

The party did not announce any candidate in the first phase for Cox’s Bazar-3 (Cox’s Bazar Sadar–Ramu–Eidgaon).

Speaking to the media, Tasnim Jara, Member Secretary of the party’s Election Management Committee, said,

“We opened the nomination forms to people across the country, and more than 1,500 individuals collected the forms.”

This marks the NCP’s initial step toward shaping its electoral presence in the upcoming national polls.
