An awareness rally and mosquito control drive were carried out in Cox’s Bazar on Friday, marking National Dengue Prevention Day, with the pledge “Dengue-free Cox’s Bazar, our firm commitment.”

The programme was organised by the Cox’s Bazar District Administration with overall support from the Civil Surgeon’s Office, Cox’s Bazar, and the Cox’s Bazar Municipality.

The rally, led by Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdur Mannan, paraded through the district bus terminal and adjacent areas. After the rally, a mosquito eradication drive was conducted, during which insecticide was sprayed to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit diseases such as dengue fever.

Among others present were Superintendent of police A N M Sajedur Rahman, Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammadul Haque, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sadar, and officials of the district administration.

Officials said the dengue prevention activities would be further strengthened following directives and recommendations from a virtual meeting held on March 10 chaired by cabinet secretary Nasimul Gani.

As part of the initiative, authorities plan to hold meetings with relevant stakeholders soon to formulate and implement a comprehensive action plan to intensify dengue prevention measures.

Officials also called on citizens to remain aware and help build a cleaner environment to prevent the spread of dengue.
