Due to a rise in measles infections in Cox’s Bazar, the district health department is set to launch a vaccination programme starting Sunday, targeting children aged between six months and five years.
Acting Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmud Uddin Mohammad Almgir said emergency measles vaccination activities have already begun in 30 high-risk upazilas and municipal areas across 18 districts of the country.
He identified South Mithachari Union under Ramu upazila and Hoanak and Boro Moheshkhali unions under Moheshkhali upazila as high-transmission zones.
The district sadar hospital primarily admits patients from these areas.
He further said that initially, the Directorate General of Health Services will launch the vaccination program in these three unions, as well as in a large area within the district town.
The campaign preparations are already complete, and we will also conduct monitoring activities during the programme.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed will virtually inaugurate the vaccination drive at 10 a.m. from the Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner’s office.
