A low-pressure system that formed over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday remains active, prompting the Meteorological Office to maintain warning signals at the country’s seaports.
Akhtar, a 45-year-old fisherman, ventured out in a dinghy to fish but was forced to return to the lake due to rough sea conditions. “We didn’t catch any fish,” said Akhtar. “There were six of us, including the boatman and crew, and no one earned any money.”
Seaports in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been instructed to hoist local warning signal number 3. Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
