The tourist town of Cox’s Bazar remained relatively quiet on Eid-ul-Azha day as many residents left the town to celebrate the festival in their village homes.
The town’s main roads saw comparatively fewer vehicles and pedestrians throughout the day.
Resident Russell said that most people had already left the town ahead of Eid. However, he expected a large influx of tourists to Cox’s Bazar over the coming days following the festival holidays.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere of the sea town began changing gradually in the afternoon as local visitors and tourists from different parts of the country started gathering at the beach.
Thousands of people crowded the Cox’s Bazar sea beach to enjoy the roaring waves, scenic beauty and pleasant afternoon weather.
Tourism insiders said that a large number of tourists were expected to visit Cox’s Bazar during the extended Eid holidays this year. Hotel, motel, and resort bookings have already increased significantly, they added.
Authorities said that the district administration, Tourist Police Bangladesh and other relevant agencies were working to ensure security, manage traffic congestion and provide necessary services for tourists.
