A preparatory meeting was held in Pekua on Monday ahead of the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Cox’s Bazar district.

The meeting, organised by the Pekua Upazila administration, took place at the Upazila Parishad conference room under the chairmanship of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rafiqul Islam.

Among others, Assistant Commissioner (Land) ASM Nurul Akter Niloy, Pekua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mehedi Hasan, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mujibur Rahman, Livestock Officer Dr Asaduzzaman, Fisheries Officer Bulbul Ahmed, Primary Education Officer Ashish Bose, and LGED Engineer Rabiul Hossain addressed the meeting.

Officials from various government departments, including Project Implementation Officer Kawsar Ahmed, Secondary Academic Supervisor Ulfat Jahan Chowdhury, Public Health Sub-Engineer Salah Uddin Sohel, Cooperative Officer Mostafa Zaman, Women Affairs Officer Md Zakir Hossain, ICT Officer Md Asaduzzaman and CPP Radio Operator Shafiul Azam Nuri, were also present.

Union parishad officials, journalists, and local representatives attended the meeting.

Authorities said extensive security measures were being put in place across Pekua, Chakaria, and other parts of Cox’s Bazar district ahead of the prime minister’s scheduled visit on June 13.

According to the proposed itinerary, Tarique Rahman will first visit Dulahazara Safari Park, where he will take part in a tree plantation programme. He is then expected to tour the park before travelling to Pekua to pay respects at the grave of martyr Wasim.

During the visit, he is also scheduled to inaugurate the foundation stone and plaque of the Pekua Municipality and stay at Saeed Mansion, the residence of Home Affairs Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed. He will have lunch there and take a short rest before proceeding to the next programme.

Later, the prime minister is expected to travel to Chakaria to unveil the foundation stone of Matamuhuri Upazila. He is also scheduled to address a public rally at Chakaria Municipal Bus Terminal at 4:00pm before leaving for Cox’s Bazar by road.

Officials said all necessary preparations were underway to ensure the smooth conduct of the visit.
