Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday said that the BNP had always worked for the interests of the country and its people, regardless of whether the party was in government.
He made the remarks while laying the foundation stone of the Pekua Municipality at the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Coastal College ground in Pekua, Cox’s Bazar.
The prime minister said that former prime minister Khaleda Zia had laid the foundation stone of Pekua upazila, and now her party, after assuming responsibility for running the country, had established the foundation for Pekua Municipality.
He said, “The BNP always works for the country’s and its people’s welfare, whether in power or not.”
Among those present at the ceremony were Home Affairs Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed, the prime minister’s wife Zubaida Rahman, members of the cabinet, lawmakers, and senior government officials.
Earlier, upon arriving in Pekua, the prime minister visited the grave of the July uprising martyr Wasim Akram and met members of his family.
During the visit, he handed over financial assistance worth Tk 2 million to the martyr’s family and expressed his condolences, paying tribute to Wasim’s sacrifice.
