Around 1,500 small and marginal farmers in Pekua Upazila of Cox’s Bazar have received free agricultural inputs under the government’s agricultural incentive programme for the current fiscal year.
The distribution programme was held on Monday morning at the upazila parishad premises, with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rafiqul Islam attending as the chief guest.
The event was chaired by Upazila Agriculture Officer Mohammad Faruk Hossain Chowdhury and attended by officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension and other concerned officials.
The agriculture officer said each of the 1,500 beneficiaries received five kilograms of high-yielding transplanted Aman paddy seed, 10 kilograms of DAP fertiliser and 10 kilograms of MOP fertiliser free of charge.
In addition, 50 farmers received 10 grams of hybrid chilli seed along with the required chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Another 550 farmers were provided with 300 grams each of seeds of seven varieties of summer vegetables together with fertiliser, while 960 farmers received five saplings of different tree species, support stakes and organic fertiliser.
Speaking at the programme, UNO Rafiqul Islam said the government’s agricultural incentive scheme would help reduce farmers’ production costs, boost agricultural output, strengthen food security and contribute to environmental conservation.
