Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad A Mannan on Saturday visited flood-affected areas in Pekua Upazila to assess the damage caused by days of heavy rainfall, hill runoff and flooding.
During the visit, the deputy commissioner inspected several inundated areas and met affected residents to learn about their conditions.
As part of the visit, he went to Banglapara village in Pekua Sadar Union, where he spoke with marooned families and listened to their concerns. He later distributed relief materials and essential medicines among flood-hit households on behalf of the district administration.
The deputy commissioner said the district administration stood by flood victims and would continue providing necessary assistance to affected families. He also instructed officials to ensure the prompt delivery of relief and emergency support based on the needs of those affected.
The visit was attended by the Pekua Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the Assistant Commissioner (Land), who briefed the deputy commissioner on the flood situation, damage assessment and the ongoing relief operations.
Days of heavy rainfall, hill runoff and high tides have inundated Pekua and several other upazilas in Cox’s Bazar, leaving thousands of families marooned.
The district administration, along with other government agencies and humanitarian organisations, has continued to provide relief and emergency assistance to those affected.
