A low-pressure system has formed over the North Bay and the adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh, and is likely to intensify further.
Under its influence, gusty or squally weather may prevail over the country’s maritime ports, the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The information was disclosed in a warning issued by the department’s Storm Warning Centre on Wednesday.
Assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office Md Abdul Hannan also confirmed the development.
The warning asked the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have also been advised to proceed with caution and remain close to the coast until further notice.
