Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar recorded the highest rainfall in the country in the past 24 hours, with 183mm of rain recorded until 6am, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The highest rainfall recorded in Cox’s Bazar Sadar during the period was 114mm in the 24 hours until noon, while Kutubdia recorded 86mm until 6am.
The No. 3 local warning signal remains in force at the country’s seaports amid heavy rain and gusty winds.
The information was disclosed in a weather bulletin published on the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s website.
Mohammad Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, said the heavy to very heavy rainfall of the past two days could ease somewhat from Wednesday.
However, he said the rain may continue for another five days.
The Meteorological Department said the warning was issued as a deep convective cloud system had formed over the north Bay of Bengal.
Cox’s Bazar seaport has also been advised to keep the No. 3 local warning signal hoisted.
All fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Under the influence of the active monsoon, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by temporary gusty winds may continue in Cox’s Bazar and adjoining coastal areas.
