Two fishermen were killed, and two others went missing after a fishing trawler sank in stormy weather off the Nazirartek coast of Cox’s Bazar early Thursday.
Four other fishermen were rescued alive.
The accident occurred around 4:00am on Thursday, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Foyez Ahmed and Saiful Islam, while Nurul Alam and Muhib Ullah remained missing. All were residents of Moheshkhali upazila.
According to local sources, the fishermen went to sea on Tuesday night aboard a trawler owned by Faridul Alam of Kutubjom in Moheshkhali.
The trawler overturned after coming under strong winds near the Nazirartek coast early Thursday. Four fishermen managed to swim to shore and survived.
Later, local fishermen recovered the bodies of Foyez Ahmed and Saiful Islam from the Sonadia Channel.
Local fishermen continued the search for the two missing fishermen.
Moheshkhali upazila nirbahi officer Imran Mahmud Dalim confirmed the incident.
