Cox’s Bazar has been drenched by heavy rain towards the end of the monsoon, with rainfall that began on Thursday night continuing until Friday morning. The downpour has caused waterlogging in different parts of the town and surrounding areas.
The Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office said 196mm of rainfall was recorded in the district in the 24 hours until Friday morning.
Assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office Abdul Hannan said 196mm of rainfall was recorded in the district during the period.
He said the rainfall pattern would gradually shift from the southern to the northern parts of the country on September 5 and 6.
“As a result, rainfall may increase in different parts of the northern region, including Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh. At the same time, rainfall is expected to decrease in Cox’s Bazar and other southern areas,” he said.
Meanwhile, the No. 3 local warning signal previously issued for the maritime ports of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Mongla and Payra was withdrawn on Thursday. There is currently no warning signal at any of the country’s maritime ports.
The heavy rain has also affected tourism, road communications and daily life in Cox’s Bazar. The number of tourists moving around the beach has decreased due to the rain.
