The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has asked the authorities to continue hoisting local cautionary signal No. 3 at Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra maritime ports as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moves inland along India’s eastern coast.
According to a special bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the deep depression that had been located over the northwest Bay and adjoining west-central Bay crossed the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts and was currently positioned as a land depression over north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining coastal areas of south Odisha.
The system is likely to move further west-northwest and gradually weaken, the bulletin said.
Under its influence, squally weather may affect the maritime ports, the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Md Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, said the deep depression could cause gusty winds along the Cox’s Bazar coast and make the sea rough.
He advised fishing boats and trawlers to operate with caution.
