Continuous downpour over several hours has led to severe waterlogging in various areas of Cox’s Bazar, submerging large parts of the district.
One of the worst-hit areas is the bypass road from Kalatali to Jambur Mor in the hotel-motel zone, which has gone completely underwater.
Other areas, including Tekpara, Chaulbazar, Fulbagh Road, Baidyaghona, and Goldighi’s Par, also experienced knee-deep or even deeper water.
Residents and businesses in these areas faced significant disruptions due to the waterlogging.
An official of the Cox’s Bazar Municipality said that despite regular cleaning of drains, they fill up quickly after short periods of rainfall, largely due to downstream from the hills.
This problem is caused by hill cutting, and if hill cutting is stopped, waterlogging will also decrease, they expressed hope.
