Rice mills in Jhilongja Union of Ukhiya upazila remain busy producing charcoal fuel from rice husks outside the paddy milling season. The union has four rice mills, where farmers bring paddy for processing during the harvest season. Mill owner Syed Noor said some farmers bring 60–70 sacks of paddy at a time, though smaller machines mean processing takes longer. Recently, trucks were seen delivering rice husks to the mills, where the by-product of rice production is turned into fuel.
