Severe cyclonic storm Arnab crossed the coast of India’s Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday morning, prompting authorities to maintain local warning signal No. 3 at the country’s four seaports—Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued the update in its Special Bulletin No. 14 on Wednesday afternoon.
The bulletin said Arnab, which had been positioned over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, moved west-northwest and crossed the Andhra coast. The system was then located over Andhra Pradesh and adjoining coastal areas and was expected to move northwestwards and gradually weaken.
The bulletin also warned that deep convective clouds were forming over the north Bay of Bengal under the influence of the cyclone. Squally or gusty winds could affect the seaports, the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas.
Md Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, said warning signal No. 3 remained in force at Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra.
Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
