Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 36,800 Burmese yaba tablets worth Tk 1.104 crore in an operation conducted by a patrol team of the Ghumdhum Border Outpost (BOP) under Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) on Friday.
Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, PBGM, PSC, the battalion’s commanding officer, confirmed the seizure.
Acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team conducted the operation at a place known as Ambagan, about 300 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 32, at around 4:30 am on October 30. The tablets, estimated to be worth Tk 1,10,40,000, were found abandoned, with no owner present.
The process of filing a case and handing over the seized drugs to police is underway.
“The BGB is committed not only to guarding the border but also to preventing drug trafficking and smuggling. Such operations will continue in the future,” the commanding officer said.
The Cox’s Bazar Battalion operates under the Ramu Sector of the BGB’s Cox’s Bazar Region and conducts operations to maintain border security and prevent drug trafficking and other illegal activities.
