At Ghotibhanga Ghat, the boatmen are busy repairing boats, working alongside several skilled craftsmen.
Some craft oars and poles, while others repair parts of old boats. Some concentrate on constructing the boat’s canopy or roof.
The air is filled with the constant sound of hammering, and some are humming tunes as they work.
Shakil Ahmed, a boatman, has been involved in boat repair and building for many years. He said that in the past, there were no engine-powered boats. The boatmen used to row with oars and poles. But over time, engine-powered boats have replaced these traditional boats.
