The Enhanced Coastal Fisheries in Bangladesh (ECOFISH-2) project, with support from the District Fisheries Department, recently organized a conference for local fishermen in Cox’s Bazar.

The event took place today (October 30) in a conference room of a local hotel and included participants from fishery conservation teams and co-management organizations across the Sadar upazila.

District Fisheries Officer Md. Badruzzaman presided over the meeting, which featured key speakers, including Dr. Shafiqul Rahman, Chief Scientific Officer of the Fisheries Research Institute, Senior Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer Sujoy Pal, Fish Landing Center Manager GM Rabbani, ECOFISH-2 Scientist Dr Md Sharif Uddin, Dr Nahiduzzaman, and researcher Arifur Rahman.

Over one hundred male and female fishermen and Blue Guards from 10 coastal villages in the Sadar upazila attended the event.

The day-long conference addressed issues critical to fishermen’s development, including marine biodiversity conservation, fishery resource management, and alternative income opportunities during fishing bans.
