Cox’s Bazar, known for its stunning natural beauty, is also home to several historic Buddhist temples with immense cultural and spiritual significance.

Among these, the Aggmeda Buddhist Temple and the Mahashangdogree Temple stand out as prominent landmarks.

These temples, located conveniently in the city’s heart, are easily accessible via rickshaws, tuk-tuk, or CNG auto rickshaws. Their proximity to the bustling Burmese market adds to their appeal, offering visitors a dual experience of spiritual exploration and vibrant local shopping.

In earlier times, these temples were a bustling hub for domestic and international tourists, with a steady stream of daily visitors.

While they remain open to the public, visiting hours are now regulated. Visitors can explore these temples from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

According to historical records, a Buddhist monk named Aggmazeui, who migrated from Myanmar to spread the teachings of Buddhism, established the Aggmeda Buddhist Temple in 1768.

The temple, named in his honor, is a masterpiece of architectural beauty crafted with intricately designed wood brought from Myanmar. Even today, it stands as a silent witness to history, showcasing the region’s enduring cultural legacy.
