Forty-five Myanmar nationals, all belonging to the Chakma community, have reportedly entered the Ukhiya Rohingya Camp in Cox’s Bazar.
The group crossed into Bangladesh on November 18 through the Ghumdhum Baishfari border in Bandarban.
They are stationed near the Kutupalong Hindu Camp, where law enforcement and administrative officials verify their identities.
The incident was confirmed to Cox’s Bazar Life by Ukhiya Upazila’s Acting Executive Officer and Assistant Commissioner (Land), Zarin Tasnim.
Approximately 45 Myanmar nationals crossed into Bangladesh this morning, she stated. She said further government decisions regarding their situation will be communicated in due course.
They claimed they fled Myanmar’s Rakhine state due to escalating violence that rendered the region uninhabitable. Many had been engaged in agriculture and jhum farming before being forced to seek refuge in Bangladesh.
Reliable local sources also revealed that today’s group includes 44 individuals from the Tangchangya community, while 12 members of the Barua community had reportedly entered a few days earlier.
