The Center for Environment, Human Rights, and Development Forum (CEHRDF) organized a rally demanding climate justice at the main gate of the Matarbari coal power plant. Md. Ilyas Mia, the Chief Executive of CEHRDF, chaired the event.

In his speech, Md. Ilyas Mia said, “Climate change is the greatest crisis facing the world today. We urge world leaders at the upcoming COP 29 conference to take decisive action to phase out fossil fuels. Investments in green energy and raising climate funds are essential to supporting vulnerable countries.”

Speakers included Abu Bakkar Siddique, General Secretary of Maheshkhali BAPA, Nur Mohammad, Maheshkhali Jono Surakkha Moncho President, and Assistant Chief Organizer Rezaul Karim. They called for the closing of all coal power plants in Bangladesh and the allocation of funds from global climate financing for affected countries.

Abdul Mannan Rana, Deputy Chief Leader of CEHRDF, highlighted the need for young people to take collective action to tackle climate challenges. 

The speakers emphasized ending fossil fuel dependency, protecting the environment, and prioritizing government investment in renewable energy.
