Cucumber farming is gaining momentum in Teknaf. After harvesting Aman paddy, farmers across various areas of the upazila are actively cultivating hybrid varieties of cucumber.
According to the farmers, the demand for cucumbers increases significantly during the holy month of Ramadan. Hybrid varieties are ideal for meeting this demand, as they yield better results quickly and require less land. The financial benefits of seasonal cucumber farming have also boosted their enthusiasm for cultivation.
Md. Zakirul Islam, the Upazila Agriculture Officer, revealed that the Upazila already cultivates cucumbers on 40 hectares of land. He further stated that they anticipate further expansion of cucumber farming following the Aman harvest.
This seasonal farming initiative closely aligns with preparations for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, as cucumbers are a favorite for iftar among those fasting.
