To safeguard the environment and biodiversity of Cox’s Bazar, environmental organizations Youth for Ecology Conservation and Cox’s Bazar Jano Suraksha Mancha hosted a press conference on Thursday (November 28) at a hall in the town.

S.M. Rubel, Team Leader of Youth for Ecology Conservation, highlighted the severe environmental threats faced by Cox’s Bazar due to global warming and destructive human activities.

He pointed out several issues, including clearing casuarina plantations, encroachment on the beach, plastic pollution, river grabbing, deforestation, and ocean dumping.

Advocate Saki, President of Cox’s Bazar Jano Suraksha Mancha, emphasized the adverse impact of plastic waste on marine ecosystems. He also raised concerns over illegal construction and land grabbing in the Ecologically Critical Areas (ECA).

Maulana Mohsin, General Secretary of the Maheshkhali Jano Suraksha Mancha, warned of the environmental risks associated with land acquisition for the Matarbari port project. He urged authorities to reconsider the project and advocated for its cancellation to prevent ecological damage.
