Winter watermelon cultivation is becoming increasingly popular in Kutubdia, Cox’s Bazar. With minimal rainfall this season, the harvest has been bountiful, bringing joy to farmers selling their produce directly from the fields at lucrative prices.
The watermelons grown in Kutubdia meet local demand and are transported to various regions nationwide.
Winter watermelon farming spans approximately 15 hectares of land in areas such as Putinyar Para and the wind power zone of Ali Akbar Dale Union. Farmers report excellent yields thanks to favorable weather, increasing prices, and offering substantial profits.
The juicy and sweet watermelons of Kutubdia draw tourists, who often flock to the fields, to experience their charm firsthand. The reputation of Kutubdia’s watermelons is spreading far and wide, adding to the island’s allure.
