The Forest Department in Moheshkhali seized a dumper loaded with illegally harvested timber during a nighttime anti-smuggling operation in the Shaplapur-Dineshpur Beat’s hilly region.
The operation was conducted around 11 PM on Sunday (February 2) in the deep forests of Dineshpur Beat. Beat Officer Manzur Morshed confirmed the media. “Acting on a tip-off, we launched a raid after learning that a dumper full of timber was being prepared for smuggling. Sensing our presence, the driver and smugglers fled, abandoning the vehicle loaded with logs. We seized the dumper along with 49 pieces of timber,” he said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that local handler Sonamiah was conducting the timber smuggling operation on behalf of Ali Akbar from Chakaria. The Forest Department is conducting further investigations and has assured that legal action will be taken against those involved.
