A wild elephant was found dead in the Fasiakhali-Ghuniya area of Chakaria upazila early Wednesday morning.
The incident took place around 6:00 AM in the Abuler Ghona area of South Ghuniya, Ward No. 5, under Fasiakhali Union.
Confirming the incident, Fasiakhali Range Officer Mohammad Meheraj stated that officials have reached the site and are investigating the cause of death.
Local UP member Jomir Uddin said the elephant had entered a human settlement the night before. The forest department estimates its age to be around 40 years. However, it is still unclear whether the elephant died due to an electric trap or some other cause, as there are no paddy fields nearby where such traps are commonly set.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
