United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres is set to visit Bangladesh on March 12. As part of his trip, he will see the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar on March 13 and join an iftar with the Rohingya community.

According to sources, high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, the UN Bangladesh Mission, and the local administration will accompany the Secretary-General during his visit. He is expected to discuss Rohingya refugees and meet with representatives of UN agencies working in the camps.

Ahead of this visit, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi recently toured Cox’s Bazar to assess the situation in the camps.

A Portuguese national, António Guterres took office as the UN Secretary-General on January 1, 2017. Before this, he served as the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002.

His visit is expected to strengthen international cooperation and support addressing the Rohingya crisis. The final itinerary of the trip will be announced soon.
