United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Bangladesh’s Interim Government Chief Adviser, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, have arrived in Cox’s Bazar to visit the Rohingya refugee camps.

According to the Chief Adviser’s press wing, they departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday (March 14) at 1 PM via Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Upon their arrival at Cox’s Bazar Airport, UN Secretary-General Guterres was received by Interim Government Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Protik, along with Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin and the Superintendent of Police.

Following their arrival, Secretary-General Guterres proceeded directly to the refugee camps in Ukhiya. Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Yunus attended several programs in Cox’s Bazar before heading to the Rohingya camps in the afternoon.

Sources indicate that the Chief Adviser will inspect the under-construction Cox’s Bazar International Airport and the Khurushkul Climate Refugee Center. Later, he is expected to join Secretary-General Guterres and approximately 100,000 Rohingya refugees for Iftar in Ukhiya.

Secretary-General Guterres will tour the Rohingya Learning Centers, the Rohingya Cultural Center, and a jute-based product manufacturing facility during his visit.

Following their engagements and the Iftar gathering, both leaders are scheduled to return to Dhaka together in the evening.
