The Forest Department has launched a new afforestation initiative on 350 hectares of forest land in Ukhiya as part of its social forestry program. Funded by the World Bank, the Ministry of Environment and Forests is implementing the project in the Inani Forest Range of the upazila.
Firoz Al Amin, Range Officer of Inani, said that under the program, 100 hectares in Swan Khali Forest Beat, 50 hectares in Jalia Palong, and 200 hectares in Inani are being brought under afforestation.
Kamrul Hasan, Beat Officer at Inani, added that saplings of various species, including Garjan, Amloki, Horikoti, Polash, Kadam, Arjun, Gamar, and Teak, are being planted as part of the initiative.
Officials stated that the plantation activities are expected to be completed by next month.
