Farmers in Ukhiya have begun planting Aman rice seedlings in full force, marking the start of the seasonal cultivation process. Across the upazila, both men and women are actively engaged in preparing and planting fields during the monsoon month of Shraban.

Local farmers say Shraban is the ideal time for transplanting Aman seedlings. Favourable weather conditions this year have allowed timely field preparation and the adoption of improved planting techniques. Although continuous rainfall has caused some farmlands to be submerged, farmers insist that the cultivation work remains uninterrupted.

According to the local Department of Agricultural Extension, a total of 8,600 hectares across five unions of Ukhiya have been targeted for Aman cultivation this year—200 hectares more than last year’s target.

Despite minor setbacks due to waterlogging, the monsoon has brought renewed activity to the region’s agricultural landscape, with farmers hopeful for a productive season ahead.
