To ensure food safety ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, a mobile court operation was conducted in Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila on March 22 (Saturday) from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The drive, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nilufa Yasmin Chowdhury, was conducted with RAB-15, the Ansar Battalion, BSTI, and local administration officials.

During the inspection in the Larpara and Badar Mokam areas, several irregularities were found in food production facilities, leading to fines under various legal provisions for the Muntaiz Ice Cream Factory. The factory was fined Tk 25,000 under the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009 for using harmful colors and saccharin in an unhygienic environment.

Moreover, Nazim Pickle Factory (Larpara) was fined Tk 10,000 under the Weights and Measures Standards Act, 2018 for operating without a license and using a fake BSTI certification.

Another Super shop in the Badar Mokam area was fined Tk 10,000 for producing Jilapi in unhygienic conditions, lacking a trade license and BSTI approval, and selling products without expiration dates on packaging.

The prosecution team included District Sanitary Inspector Jaharlal Pal and BSTI Inspector Ranjit Mallik.

Three cases were filed, and fines amounting to Tk 45,000 were imposed. The Upazila administration has assured that such food safety drives will continue throughout Eid to protect consumers.
