A cargo vessel carrying approximately 30,000 sacks of goods remains detained by the Arakan Army nine days after being intercepted en route to Teknaf Land Port from Myanmar. The port manager, Syed Mohammad Anwar Hossain, confirmed the incident.
Local traders reported that the Arakan Army had intercepted three cargo vessels at the Naf River estuary last Thursday. The Arakan Army released two boats but still held the largest one. Businessman Ehteshamul Haque Bahadur voiced his concerns: “The large cargo vessel remains unreleased after nine days.” This situation is deeply troubling.”
Sources indicate that the Arakan Army is unloading and inspecting the cargo under the pretext of conducting searches. Analysts believe these actions are part of an effort to assert dominance over border trade routes.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsan Uddin stated, “We are actively investigating the matter and are working toward a resolution as soon as possible.”
The vessel’s prolonged detention has heightened concerns among traders and port authorities, adding to the challenges faced by cross-border commerce in the region.
