On the night of July 31, 2020, retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead by police at a checkpoint on Marine Drive in Teknaf.

Four and a half years later, a memorial plaque was inaugurated at the very site where the tragic incident occurred.

On Thursday (February 27) afternoon, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman officially unveiled the ‘Major Sinha Memorial Plaque’ on Marine Drive.

The memorial was erected at the Shamlapur checkpoint in Baharchhara Union of Teknaf Upazila, where Teknaf police fatally shot Major Sinha.

Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Chief of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and senior officials from the army, BGB, and RAB attended the inauguration ceremony. Major Sinha’s sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, also participated in the event.

Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan voluntarily retired from the Bangladesh Army in 2018. A highly talented and astute officer, he was the son of Mohammad Ershad Khan, the former Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and valiant freedom fighter.

Among three siblings, Major Sinha was the second. His ancestral home is in Faridganj, Chandpur. At the time of the incident, he had been in Cox’s Bazar filming content for his YouTube channel, Just Go.
