A court has ordered the imprisonment of Ataullah Abu Ammar Jununi, the leader of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), in Bandarban jail.

On Monday (April 7), Jununi was presented before the Bandarban District and Sessions Judge’s Court for a hearing. Later, he was taken to the Bandarban Chief Judicial Magistrate Court for another case hearing.

As he was being taken to jail, Jununi addressed journalists, stating that Rohingyas will reclaim their land in Arakan and expressing gratitude for the actions of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh’s interim government. Security around the court premises was heightened during the proceedings.

During a special operation, Jununi was arrested by law enforcement on March 18 in Narayanganj. He faces multiple charges, including involvement in the murder of Squadron Leader Rizwan Rushdi of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) during an anti-narcotics operation at the Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari, Bandarban. He is also accused in a case related to injuring a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officer in the same area.

Court police inspector Md. Rezaul Karim Mazumdar confirmed these details.
