Cox’s Bazar, August 23, 2024 — Torrential rains and the surge of water from the mountains have left at least 23,000 people waterlogged in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. The relentless downpour has caused the Bankkhali River to overflow, submerging over 1,000 houses across more than 30 villages along its banks.
As of 5 PM yesterday, the river’s water level was still above the flood limit, worsening the already dire situation. Tragically, two lives, including that of a child, have been claimed by the floodwaters. Rescue teams continue to search for two others who remain missing.
The situation has left thousands stranded, with little to no access to basic necessities. Local authorities and aid organizations are working to provide relief, but the continued threat of rising water levels is compounding the challenges.
